On September 9, 15.000 employees from the entertainment industry took to the streets of Berlin to draw attention to the dire straits the industry finds itself in on account of COVID-19 restrictions. Estrel staff draw attention to the dire straits the industry finds itself in on account of COVID-19 restrictions.

Before the Corona crisis, Berlin's renowned Estrel Congress Center (ECC) hosted over 1,800 events every year. With 550 permanent and many freelance employees as well as 80 trainee positions, the Estrel is among the capital's most significant employers. Starting with the complete lockdown in March of 2020, the Estrel has suffered a massive downturn in sales and the cancellation of almost all scheduled event business.

The Estrel moved quickly to develop a comprehensive safety and hygiene concept in response to the pandemic, enabled by the location's large and adaptable spaces. Already, some events have been able to take place at the ECC. Nonetheless, the continuing COVID-19 restrictions and insufficient governmental support have put many jobs and trainee positions at risk.
